Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas is a village on the change. Like in other areas of the Dominican Republic it suddenly grew right and left of the mainroad. Being the mainartery, of which many little little roads go, some of them in a frightening state for European standards, it plunge the foreigners into the real atmosphere.

This boom does not seem to disturb the Dominicans at all, at least they have to slow down a bit  – All is much easier on a motor bike. It is therefore not astonishing to see lots of motorbikes around.

The typical wooden huts of the locals are still very much in existence outside of the village but have given way on the mainroad to shops, workshops, restaurants and dwellings, sadly not always beautiful buildings. Somethow it fits. Las Terrenas has life and a lot of charme. One can see the every day life which makes the place appealing.

Shopping

Locals and immigrants have created at last a well working infrastructure with modern banks and cashdispensers, Codetel and a modern supermarket, three shoppingcenters with pretty boutiques. There are a few pretty small Hotels, good local and foreign restaurants and bars ( probably because of the french imigrants), a fishervillage, many diving centers, lots of car – and motorcycle - rentals  and even a bar, where once in a while jazz is played – Las Terrenas is a good place to live.

For the individual traveller Las Terrenas is surely one of the highlights of the Dominican Republic.
